Airport Information

Information updated on 95-05-03 shown in italics.

Denver International Airport (DIA) is connected by its own highway to Interstate 70 which then goes on west into Denver. When traffic is reasonably light, the trip to downtown takes about 35 minutes.

To get to the DIA main lobby from the arrival gates on Concourse B or C, go downstairs (via escalator or elevator) and take the subway train (frequent service) to the main terminal where you will pick up your baggage. Go (via escalator or elevator) up to Level 5, the baggage and information level. The train also serves Concourse A, but you may wish to work out the kinks in your legs by walking to the main terminal via the flyover bridge; it's worth the walk just to see the jets taxi underneath your feet.

International arrivals will exit automatically into the main terminal lobby, Level 5. The DIA currency exchange is located on Level 5 in the northwest corner (closest to Concourse A) facing the Jeppesen statue (man with propeller). The sign says Insurance, not Exchange. Phone +1 303 342 0190.

Information and ticket counters for all the organizations providing ground transportation from DIA to the city of Denver are located on Level 5 in the large lobby adjacent to the baggage area.

A general Ground Transport Information Center (Phone +1 303 342 2000 or +1 303 342 4059) in the main Level 5 lobby is identified by a large sign, and specific service counters are located toward the west side. Here are choices in ascending order of expense:

Public skyRide buses

Public skyRide buses are operated by the RTD (Regional Transportation District). At the time of this writing, service is hourly every day at 45 minutes after the hour from 6:45am to 11:45pm (23:45) (last bus departure). Take Route AF from DIA to the Market Street Station in downtown Denver (scheduled time is about one hour). The fare is $6.00 US, one way. Buy your ticket at the sales counter located near door 506 on Level 5 or have the exact fare to give to the driver. Advance purchase of a round trip ticket is $10.00 US at the sales counter. For RTD information phone +1 303 299 6000.

Pick up the AF bus at one of two designated skyRide boarding points: traffic lane 3 outside door 506 on the west side of the terminal, or traffic lane 3 outside door 511 on the east side of the terminal. Departure from the east side is 5 minutes later than departure from the west side.

Get off the AF bus at the Market Street Station, go outside, and board the free 16th street shuttle southeast-bound (tell RTD personnel your desired destination, and they can advise you on the stop you want). Conference hotels are clustered near the southeast end of the route. The Convention Center is two blocks northwest of 16th Street at 14th and California (see the map on page 28 of the Advance Program).

Incidentally, all airport and 16th street shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts operated by the driver.

Shuttle service

Shuttle service via multi-passenger vans direct to downtown hotels is available from several vendors. Times vary throughout the day -- check at their service counters in the middle west wall of the main terminal Level 5.

Two services may be of particular interest to CHI'95 attendees. Reservations are not needed but may be made using the phone numbers listed below. Both firms should have wheelchair accessible vans if advance notice is given.

Denver Airport Shuttle

Denver Airport Shuttle (DASH) has a published fare of $15.00 US one way, $27.00 round trip.

The firm (Mr. Dave Short) has agreed to honor a $24.00 US round-trip rate for all of our attendees who use their service and mention "CHI '95" at the DASH counter on Level 5 when they arrive at the DIA main lobby and again prior to boarding the van.

Taxi service

Taxi service is available at both the west and east exits from Level 5. Shared ride programs are offered by all taxicab companies. Expect a fare of $35-$40 US, one way, to downtown destinations.

Car rental service

Car rental service counters are at the south end of Level 5 main lobby. To reach downtown Denver by car, take Interstate 70 west to Interstate 25. Then take Interstate 25 south to the Speer Boulevard EAST exit and then go southeast on Speer into the city. The Colorado Convention Center is on your left at Stout Street. As in any city, expect to pay to park.
