Denver International Airport (DIA) is connected by its own highway to Interstate 70 which then goes on west into Denver. When traffic is reasonably light, the trip to downtown takes about 35 minutes.
To get to the DIA main lobby from the arrival gates on Concourse B or C, go downstairs (via escalator or elevator) and take the subway train (frequent service) to the main terminal where you will pick up your baggage. Go (via escalator or elevator) up to Level 5, the baggage and information level. The train also serves Concourse A, but you may wish to work out the kinks in your legs by walking to the main terminal via the flyover bridge; it's worth the walk just to see the jets taxi underneath your feet.
International arrivals will exit automatically into the main terminal lobby, Level 5. The DIA currency exchange is located on Level 5 in the northwest corner (closest to Concourse A) facing the Jeppesen statue (man with propeller). The sign says Insurance, not Exchange. Phone +1 303 342 0190.
Information and ticket counters for all the organizations providing ground transportation from DIA to the city of Denver are located on Level 5 in the large lobby adjacent to the baggage area.
A general Ground Transport Information Center (Phone +1 303 342 2000 or +1 303 342 4059) in the main Level 5 lobby is identified by a large sign, and specific service counters are located toward the west side. Here are choices in ascending order of expense:
Pick up the AF bus at one of two designated skyRide boarding points: traffic lane 3 outside door 506 on the west side of the terminal, or traffic lane 3 outside door 511 on the east side of the terminal. Departure from the east side is 5 minutes later than departure from the west side.
Get off the AF bus at the Market Street Station, go outside, and board the free 16th street shuttle southeast-bound (tell RTD personnel your desired destination, and they can advise you on the stop you want). Conference hotels are clustered near the southeast end of the route. The Convention Center is two blocks northwest of 16th Street at 14th and California (see the map on page 28 of the Advance Program).
Incidentally, all airport and 16th street shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts operated by the driver.
Two services may be of particular interest to CHI'95 attendees. Reservations are not needed but may be made using the phone numbers listed below. Both firms should have wheelchair accessible vans if advance notice is given.
The firm (Mr. Dave Short) has agreed to honor a $24.00 US round-trip rate for all of our attendees who use their service and mention "CHI '95" at the DASH counter on Level 5 when they arrive at the DIA main lobby and again prior to boarding the van.
